The photo book particularly is a manifestation of the role of the photographer as a narrator. The unbroken strong, visually narrative power of this medium has meanwhile become an artistic genre of its own and for photographers something like an exhibition between the book cover and the spine.

In a photo book, a photographer can say what he cannot do with a single image and it is not just about what is being told, but especially how. That separates the wheat from the chaff. Not every book full of photos is a photo book.

3books is not about addressing the photo book in its narrative evidence, not finding out which is the best or most important photo book or monograph, but which books were and are personally most important for the individual photographer / artist. Which books have accompanied, inspired and influenced him or her from the beginning or just now, so that you can get a bit of a picture of the photo book world in which the person moves and can also discover the selections as an inspiration for yourself.

According to estimates by Martin Parr, over 1000 photo books are produced annually (Photobook History Vol.II). You never have a complete overview and there are always new and great books to be found, so get inspired!
